TestPro Multifunction Cable Certifier is a versatile, purpose-built solution designed to quickly and easily ensure infrastructure readiness across smart building technologies in a cost-effective way. Recognized by Cabling Installation & Maintenance Magazine, TestPro replaces multiple pieces of equipment by offering the industry’s most expansive feature set for testing from installation to implementation using hot-swappable adapters.

UNIQUE PLATFORM FLEXIBILITY

AEM dual handset product kits contain two full function test platforms, that can each be configured as a Main or a Remote. This means, that both handsets can be independently deployed, giving you double the test equipment during end device implementation phase for wired and wireless network connectivity troubleshooting.

When certifying copper and/or fiber optic, technicians at both ends can see full test results, aiding in problem identification and remediation.

Test can be initiated from either end, cutting down on the time it takes to run back and forth in half, when only one technician is on the job.

Need to throw manpower at the job to get it done fast? If you have two or more TestPro product kits, configure one platform as the Main, and all others as Remotes. Technicians out in the office area can leapfrog each other, while one technicians stays at the MDF simply moving from port to port and connecting with each remote as it sees them through live Wiremap, and then can initiate the autotest.

During implementation phase and troubleshooting switch connectivity, link speed and PoE load, test platforms can be independently deployed, giving you double the test equipment to get the job done fast.

Copper Twisted Pair

Copper Certification Autotest

The TestPro Copper Certification Autotest is a one‑button operation that performs all tests required for TIA/ISO standards compliance, including additional parameters such as DC Resistance Unbalance, TCL, and ELTCTL. The comprehensive DC measurements include both pair‑to‑pair and wire‑to‑wire resistance unbalance tests. The Autotest also provides distance‑to‑fault reporting for Shield Discontinuity, NEXT, and Return Loss using time‑domain measurements. Test results are automatically saved to memory and can be transferred to the included TestDataPro results management software or TestDataPro Cloud for collaboration, documentation, and reporting.

TestPro supports CAT5e through CAT8 out of the box for both Channel and Permanent Link configurations. CAT6A Patch Cord Adapter is included in select Smart Building Test kits to support MPTL testing, with CAT5e and CAT6 Patch Cord Adapters available separately.

The 6-second Autotest fully characterizes DC loop resistance, pair-to-pair and wire-to-wire resistance unbalance (critical for PoE), as well as TCL and ELTCTL for EMI immunity assessment — all without additional test time. For industrial or campus links beyond 100 m, TestPro supports long cable testing up to 1,000 m with RF measurements down to 100 kHz.

Single-Pair Ethernet

TestPro is the first and only cable certifier enabling testing of Single‑Pair Ethernet (SPE) systems, supporting limits based on the TIA 568.5 SPE standard and IEEE 10BASE‑T1L specifications. SPE certification testing is fully compliant with tester requirements outlined in TIA 5071 and includes:

• Dual‑ended testing with frequency range from 100 kHz to 20 MHz and step size of 20 kHz
• Wiremap, DC Resistance, Return Loss, Insertion Loss, and optionally TCL
• Length measurement up to 1,500 m and delay measurement
• PASS/FAIL results with detailed reporting via TestDataPro software

Available test adapters include IEC 63171‑1 (LC type), IEC 63171‑6, breakout adapter for GG45, TE MATENet, Rosenberger, and various automotive SPE variants.

Live Wiremap

TestPro graphically reports end‑to‑end wiremap instantaneously when a connection is detected, providing immediate visibility into wiring faults. Technicians can locate the fault by clicking the wiremap picture, and after resolving the issue, Live Wiremap reporting verifies the fix instantly. This feature significantly improves productivity, complementing the 6‑second CAT6A Autotest.

Advanced Fault Locators (RL, NEXT & Shield TDR)

When a link fails certification, TestPro’s built‑in TDR‑based locators pinpoint the exact distance to the fault, saving hours of troubleshooting:”

• RL Locator – identifies impedance mismatches, bad connectors, shorts, and opens.
• NEXT Locator – pinpoints crosstalk failures caused by poor terminations, split pairs, or damaged cable.
• Shield Locator – unique to AEM, detects shield discontinuities (including partial breaks) with distance‑to‑fault indication

MPTL (Modular Plug Terminated Link)

Traditional enterprise cabling uses a permanent link with jacks at both ends and patch cords to connect devices. Increasingly, networking endpoints such as IP security cameras have built‑in jacks, requiring a different topology. MPTL (Modular Plug Terminated Link) is a standard‑approved variation where one end is terminated with a plug.

Important: MPTL cabling must NOT be tested using Channel Adapters, as they do not characterize the modular plug, defeating the purpose of MPTL testing. The only accurate method is to use a Patch Cord Adapter with MPTL test limit settings. Patch Cord Adapters must match the category of the cabling system under test.

Optional adapters needed: AD‑5E‑PCORD, AD‑6A‑PCORD, and AD‑6‑PCORD adapter pairs.

Fiber Certification and OTDR

Fiber Certification Autotest

TestPro’s fiber optic test option provides Tier‑1 certification according to industry standards with customizable limits for both Multimode and Singlemode premises cabling. The fiber adapters include an integrated Visual Fault Locator (VFL) for quick break detection and a copper connection port for measuring voltage and DC loop resistance on hybrid powered fiber. New simplex (single fiber) Autotest functionality allows saving Optical Loss Test results on single‑strand fiber links.

For hybrid powered fiber deployments, this unique capability allows technicians to confirm copper pair integrity after installation and verify input voltage reaching remote devices such as cameras, Wireless Access Points, or PoE extenders. Combined with TestPro’s PoE load measurement capability (using the AD‑NET‑CABLE adapter), it delivers a comprehensive solution for verification and troubleshooting across multiple network topology points. All TestPro Enhanced Kits (K11E, K51E, K61E) include a Fiber Inspection Scope.

OTDR

AEM’s OTDR test adapters provide additional troubleshooting functionality and Tier‑2 certification capability when combined with TestPro’s Optical Loss Test Set. The OTDR enables technicians to pinpoint the exact location of broken fibers or loss events causing optical loss test failures.

OTDR Test Adapters are available in Multimode and Singlemode versions and can be added to any TestPro kit:

Fiber End Face Inspection

Dirty connectors are a major cause of high connector loss and reflectance in fiber optics. TestPro features built‑in USB Video Class (UVC) drivers, supporting any USB Fiber Inspection Scope or microscope that uses the UVC driver. This allows technicians to inspect fiber connectors for contaminants before testing and installation, ensuring accurate and reliable optical measurements.

Advanced Multifunction Capabilities

Multi-Gig Link Speed Qualification

TestPro validates cabling links for high‑performance Ethernet standards including 1, 2.5, 5, and 10GBASE‑T. End‑to‑end Signal‑to‑Noise Ratio (SNR) measurement provides quick, objective assessment of link performance under network load conditions.

Wireless access points (802.11ac Wave 2) require 2.5 and 5 GigE backbone speeds for maximum performance and are often PoE‑powered. TestPro delivers a complete solution by:

• Certifying cabling infrastructure per TIA standards
• Verifying link speed per IEEE 802.3bz (1/2.5/5/10GigE)
• Measuring end‑to‑end Signal‑to‑Noise Ratio (SNR) under network load

The Autotest feature provides the simplest way to confirm that a cabling link supports the desired network rate.

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

TestPro and Network Service Assistant (NSA) provide comprehensive PoE verification up to 90W, supporting all standards including IEEE 802.3af/at/bt and UPoE. The PoE source is tested with actual load connection, with the unique ability to perform sustained internal and external load testing over time to validate maximum power the link can support.

Key PoE test parameters include:

• PSE detection, PSE Type (1-2 to 4), and PD Class (0-8)
• Voltage, current, allocated/real power (internal & external load), and PoE cable pairs

The tester also characterizes cabling links for DC Resistance Unbalance per TIA 1152A standards, either as a one‑off test or included in full certification (6‑second CAT6A Autotest for TestPro).

For PoE testing, a remote tester is not required – configure the TestPro Remote as a Main under Settings/Device Type and deploy each tester independently.

Optional AD‑NET‑PASSTHRU adapter enables in‑line monitoring between the switch and an active device (e.g., PoE camera), providing real‑time SNR, negotiated speed, and PoE voltage/current/power draw during normal operation, with log capture for extended troubleshooting.

Network & Wi‑Fi Connectivity Testing

TestPro connects to live networks via the built‑in 10/100/1000 port, the AD‑NET‑CABLE adapter (included in K60/K61 kits), or wirelessly using an optional Edimax Wi‑Fi USB adapter (EW‑7822ULC). Auto‑discovery displays connected devices on the network.

• Wi‑Fi SSID/RSSI discovery – signal strength test with Auto Connect, Wi‑Fi Handoff with editable RSSI threshold for locating weak spots and verifying handoff behavior

Coax Certification Autotest

TestPro supports coax certification for both 50 Ohm and 75 Ohm coaxial cables using Coax Test Adapters. The Autotest completes in under 15 seconds and supports both dual‑ended and single‑ended testing.

• Test results: Length, Propagation Delay, Insertion Loss (IL), Return Loss (RL)
• Supported limits: 75 Ohm (TIA‑568‑4‑D 1/3GHz, SCTE 1GHz) and 50 Ohm (1/2GHz, IEEE 802.3 10Base2 185m)

TestDataPro is standard with all TestPro and Network Service Assistant models, enabling project definition, result categorization, collaboration, and PDF reporting. Users can combine multiple Autotests into single reports (Copper & Fiber, Multi‑Gig SNR/PoE, Network Discovery).

Key capabilities:

• Recertification – change test limits without retesting (e.g., Cat5e/Cat6 to Cat6A, Cat6A to ISO/IEC Class EA). Optional parameters (DC unbalance, TCL, ELTCTL) are already included in the original 6‑second Autotest – unique to AEM.
